Sand and Sea speed boat rentals · Agios Sostis port
Sand and Sea hands you a small motorboat with a canopy at Agios Sostis, no licence needed, after a briefing and a test drive with a captain. Pick it if you want your own pace and your own music, and you're ready to follow the turtle rules yourself, because nobody else on board will.

Sand and Sea is a small outfit, run by two brothers according to guests, renting no-licence motorboats from Agios Sostis. A van collects you, staff go through a safety and navigation briefing, a captain does a short test drive with you, and then the boat is yours. Every boat has a canopy, a cool box and a Bluetooth speaker. The from-price of $144 covers the whole boat for up to 4 people for 3 hours; a 4-hour option takes 2 to 6.
The freedom is real. Guests go to Marathonisi, round to the Keri Caves, past Cameo, and stop to swim wherever the water looks good. The cost is responsibility. You are now one of the boats in the marine park, and the rules are yours to keep: Zone A, the strip off the nesting beaches, is closed to all boats from 1 May to 31 October; the rest of the bay has a 6-knot speed limit; and Zone B allows no anchoring (park zoning). Ask staff to show you the zones on a map before you leave.
Then there's the turtles. The 2018 code of conduct says no more than 2 boats on one turtle, 10 minutes at most, from the side and at least 15 m away, engine quiet. In 2019 ARCHELON reported five boats circling a single turtle, sometimes within 2 m, and a loggerhead was killed by a speedboat in 2017. If you see a crowd, wait or move on. Fuel, roughly EUR 30 to 40 for a group of 4, is paid at the dock.
An air-conditioned van brings you to the port. Have a photo of a passport, ID card or driving licence ready.
Safety, the marine park zones and the turtle rules, with help planning a route.
A captain takes the boat out with you, or talks you through it, until you're comfortable at the wheel.
Most groups head for Marathonisi, the Keri Caves and Cameo, with swims along the way. Keep to 6 knots inside the park.
Pay for the fuel you used, then the van drops you at one of 10 locations.

Not for this one. The listing says no licence is required: staff brief you and a captain does a test drive first. You show a photo of your passport, ID card or driving licence on arrival.

Yes, and most people do. Approach slowly, keep to 6 knots, and only stop where the staff told you. On the beach, stay within 5 m of the water; see our Marathonisi guide.
Keep at least 15 m away, approach from the side, stay no more than 10 minutes, and leave if two boats are already watching. Don't feed, touch or swim with it. These rules come from the 2018 code of conduct.
